Zamalek The Offside

Read a summary for a bundle of matches starting from Week 17-23!

- Week 17: Zamalek vs. Itthad: 0-1 (Mohamed Gaber 6′)
Zamalek marks another loss to the rich list of defeats this season. The only goal scored was in the opening minutes of the match that surely put Zamalek players under pressure throughout the match. It’s worth noting that the match witnessed the debut for Sabry Rahil. Zamalek moves down to the 8th spot with 21 points from 17 matches!

- Week 18: Zamalek vs. Masry: 1-1 (Hany Said 66′ – Mohamed El-Gabbas 17′)
Zamalek managed to score a late goal to grab a point out of El-Masry’s match. Hany Said equalised the score with a header from a cross taken by Mahmoud Abdel Razek “Shikabala” from a free kick. This draw broke a three consecutive defeats and the jinx of a four non-scored goals matches! Zamalek now has 22 points out of 18 matches.

- Week 19: Zamalek vs. Telecom Egypt: 1-1 (Ahmed Magdy 50′ – Ahmed Gaafar 57′)
Zamalek was held by ten-man Telecom Egypt to a positive draw. Zamalek’s only goal was scored from the spot by Ahmed Magdy after the referee awarded Gamal Hamza a penalty. Seven minutes later, Telecom Egypt managed to score the equaliser to end Zamalek hopes grabbing the full 3 points. Zamalek now has a total of 23 points out of 19 matches.

- Week 20: Zamalek vs. Tersana: 0-0
Zamalek was “luckily” held by Tersana to a goalless draw in such a boring match as the post denied two goals for Tersana. The match witnessed Mahmoud’s Saad assignation to be Decastel’s assistant. Zamalek now has 24 points from 20 matches and moves to the ninth position in the Egyptian League Standings.

- Week 21: Zamalek vs. ENPPI: 1-0 (Hany Said 75′)
FINALLY A WIN! Zamalek managed to break the rule and scored a late goal to end a six-match run without a win. The winner goal came in just a few minutes after ENPPI had one man sent off. The goal’s credit is given to Alaa Ali who crossed the ball to the unmarked man, Hany Said who finished it cooly in the net. Zamalek’s position before this match was some how scary as the team was only four pionts away from the relegation zone. Zamalek now has 27 points out of 21 matches and moves up to the 8th spot in the Egyptian League Standings.

- Week 22: Zamalek vs. Haras El-Hodoud: 1-2 (Sherif Ashraf 77′ – Ahmed Abdel Ghani 5′, Abdel Hamid Basyouny 27′)
Good performance. Bad result. Zamalek players’ good performance wasn’t enough to change the game’s side towards them. Zamalek couldn’t manage to make a two win in a row and by this defeat, Zamalek marks the ninth loss this season. The second half was harsh on the players as Zamalek was already behind by two goals in the first half. An accurate cross in the late minutes of the match by Hazem Emam “Junior” to the fighting man Sherif Ashraf who managed to scores a header gave some hope to the fans at the end. Zamalek still has 27 points out of 22 matches and remains in the ninth spot in the Egyptian League Standings.

- Week 23: Zamalek vs. Gaish: 4-2 (Sherif Ashraf 11′, 51′, Abdel Halim Ali 62′, Mahmoud Abdel Razek “Shikabala” 80′ – Salah Amin 47′, Amer Sabry 73′)
IT’S NOT JUST A WIN! IT’S A BIG ONE! Zamalek excelled this time and managed to score four goals in a match the fans would find satisfying for sure. The players’ performance in the match was outstanding. Sherif Ashraf netted twice, Abdel Halim Ali is back to the scoring habit as well as Mahmoud Abdel Razek “Shikabala”. Zamalek moves up to the seventh spot with 30 points from 23 matches.

Finally, I would like to appologise for not blogging during the last period. I hope yourn’t mad at me ;)
I do believe that Zamalek is going on the right track with Michel Decastel especially with the new couple of youth players.

We all wish the best for our beloved team in the upcoming matches.
